"Bücherstadt Langenberg" was founded in 1998. It is sponsered by our non-profit organisation "Verein für die Förderung der Bücherstadt Langenberg e.V." (approx. 50 active members).

Presently, Bücherstadt Langenberg offers a tourist information, 5 second-hand bookshops, 2 galleries, a museum of book printing and a permanent exhibition of early Dante editions.

Langenberg (part of the Municipaltiy of Velbert) is a town of 12000 inhabitants situated half way between the cities of Essen (in the Valley of the Ruhr) and Wuppertal (in the former Dukedom of Berg). Many half-timbered buildings in its old town date back to the beginning of the 16th century!

The town is surrounded by old and dense forests which make it an idyllic place to visit attracting numerous visitors from nearby cities like Duesseldorf, Cologne and the Valley of the Ruhr. A big advantage for visitiors: Langenberg is well connected to the Federal German Railway network (direct trains to Essen and Wuppertal, each 10 km away).
